Our Story
If being a small business owner were a genetic trait, I would’ve inherited it from my dad’s side of the family: my dad is a small business owner, as were both of his parents. After several years working as a teacher and in ed tech, in January of 2023, I decided to take the plunge and start a business of my own, Revision Learning. As a first-generation college student passionate about storytelling, writing, and expanding access to opportunities, I wanted to found a company that would make applying to college or navigating the professional world easier.
As a former English as a Second Language teacher, I often saw my students struggle to verbalize or write their ideas. When it came to discussing current events or writing a reflection about an article they had read, they were timid and shy. Yet, when we started the personal narrative unit, these same students thrived.
What I love about storytelling is that it typically doesn’t require specific knowledge or research. When you tell a story, it’s based on your own lived experience; you are the expert. At Revision, we equip you with the tools to make writing those stories easier and in a way that maximizes the story’s impact.
I am, first and foremost, a teacher, and I bring that experience and perspective to all the work we do at Revision Learning. My amazing team and I are able to channel our passion for storytelling, writing and expanding access to opportunity into helping thousands of people each year. Whether it be through our interactive storytelling platform, our hands-on workshops, our interactive coaching, or our personalized essay draft feedback, our goal is simple: to teach students how to tell powerful stories for college admissions and career success.
I chose the name Revision Learning with intentionality. As I tell my students, most people don’t sit down and write masterpieces. They write, and then they rewrite, and then they rewrite again. With each revision, one’s story becomes a bit better, a bit clearer and a bit more “them.” And, more often than not, it takes time to get the story just right.
